Moving Process

When you are moving to a different state, the time it will take from beginning to end will vary. It depends on how far away your new home is from the current home you live in, how many items you’re moving, and how many people are helping.

Typically, if you count from when you start pre-planning, it can take between 5 and 6 weeks.

Planning Phase

When planning a move, you have to decide if you are doing this yourself or hiring a moving company. For DIY moves, this is the time when you have to look into renting a truck that allows you to drop the truck off where you are moving. You can reserve the truck and start recruiting friends and family to help you load it up on the day of the move.

If you are hiring movers, then look for a reliable company with good reviews. Also, if you need a vehicle transported for you, this is the time to research companies and choose the best one for your needs. Packing

Do not wait to pack until the last minute because packing takes longer than you might think. Gather boxes, tape, and markers so that you can start packing at least a month before with the items in your home that you don’t use very often, photos, fine china, seasonal clothing and decor, etc.

You can start packing clothing, pots and dishes about one week before and either buy paper plates to use or leave only the exact number of dishes you will need for your family.

Moving Day

Once moving day arrives, either you are going to load all your items and boxes or have your movers do it. Loading will normally take longer than unloading because everything has to be loaded safely and correctly to ensure that everything fits.

When you arrive in your new state, then it’s time to unload all the boxes into your new home. Unless you barely have any boxes, unpacking is the most time-consuming of the entire process.

It usually takes the average person 6 months to completely unpack every single box they moved.
